8-Under Focus MEETING
Going in to our 8th official league year we appreciate any feedback that you can provide. We have grown from 26 teams to 74 teams in 2021. Even if you are not currently participating we want to hear your opinion. For those of you that have been around for a long time remember when 10-under was added? We now have over 200 teams in the metro area alone.
Our goal for the 2022 season is to have 80+ teams participate.

Tie Breaker Rule: The offensive team shall begin its turn at bat with the player who is scheduled to bat last in that respective half inning being placed on second base (e.g., if the number five batter is the leadoff batter, the number four batter in the batting order will be placed on second base. A substitute may be inserted for the runner). **For 8U the inning will start with 1 out. After one inning of playing the tie breaker rule a coin flip will be done to determine a winner.**
In order to ensure the coaches can focus on instruction with players at the 8U level, the home team will provide a non coach parent umpire/or a youth cadet umpire if you had one trained. The parent ump/cadet will keep track of the pitch count and strikes as well as enforce the rules set forth for the 8U league. Should the parent ump/cadet question a play, they may defer to offense and defense coaches in field to help make the final call.
The initial rules were created by Minnesota Softball Staff after consulting with many other states about how they conduct 8U softball. The idea is to get kids playing short games, learn how to play the game properly, and to enjoy playing the sport. The premise of this is not to develop pitchers. You can and should work on pitching during every single practice, with every single kid. If you have a kid that is an advanced player for that age, place them on a 10U team if feasible. Now entering our 8th year being organized the rules have evolved to meet the needs of associations and coaches to help make the sport better and to make it grow.
These rules were modified at the March 15, 2022 8-Under focus meeting.
